Vipul Mehta bags double crown

Vipul Mehta of Delhi won a memorable double crown by clinching the boys singles and doubles titles while Hyderabad girl Mubashira Shaikh claimed the girls' singles honours in the 9th BVG India-Arun Wakankar ATF Asian Under 14 Series Tennis Tournament here today.
Pune's Richa Chougulae and Malikaa Marathe won the girls' doubles title in the tournament organised by Pune Metropolitan District Tennis Association (PMDTA) which concluded at the MSLTA School of Tennis Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Complex.
In the final, 14-year-old Vipul Mehta, seeded no. 2 and a 10th standard student of Venkateshwar International School Delhi, outplayed bespectacled Nashik boy Vikrant Mehta 6-0, 6-1 in just under an hour to claim the boys 'singles title.
Vipul then teamed up with Adarsh Tippabhatla of USA to register a 6-2, 6-2 win over Arka Ganguly and Srijesh Pillai to complete a double crown.
In the girls' singles final, sixth seed Mubashira ended the challenge of local girl Mallika Marathe, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in a 2 hour 45-minute encounter.
Thirteen-year-old Mubashira, an eighth standard student of NRI Indians Springs International School in Hyderabad who practices at the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy under coach Akhtar Ali and Imran Mirza, struggled against her 11-year-old Pune rival in the second set before emerging triumphant.

The Pune girl claimed the second set to level scores but ran out of steam in the decider to go down tamely without winning a game.
She, however, had the consolation of winning the doubles title alongside Richa Chougule, also from Pune, as the pair recorded a 6-1, 6-4 win against Sana Khanna and Tannaya Sah in the final.
The title winners got a trophy, certificates and 300 ATF points while the runners received a trophy, certificates and 200 ATF points.
