The accused Kirti Kumar Chorge (40) allegedly sexually assaulted the woman at her house in front of her teenaged daughter and son, they said.
Though the woman was repeatedly raped by the accused over three years, she lodged an FIR against him only on December 24 after confiding in local MLA Vivek Pandit.
Chorge also physically tortured the woman while threatening her of dire consequences if she revealed about the crime to anyone, the MLA said quoting from the FIR.
The woman could gather the courage to approach police with the MLA's help following nationwide outrage over the Delhi gang-rape incident.
"Police initially turned the woman away when she sought to register the FIR against Chorge. They finally booked him under section 376 of IPC for rape but ignored allegations of physical torture", Pandit told reporters.
He demanded that the woman and her family be provided security as the accused happens to be an influential builder.
