Hitting out at Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh for providing "luxuries to rejected Congress leaders", leader of opposition P K Dhumal today said Singh took loans amounting Rs 11,000 crore and pushed the state into a "debt trap".
"There is no prudent financial management and the government is indulging in wasteful expenditure to provide luxuries to rejected Congress leaders and saving the chair of Chief Minister," Dhumal said in a statement issued here.
The former Chief minister said the Modi government has launched several schemes for development of rural areas and farmers but the state has not been able to derive the benefits of these programmes due to increasing debt burden and interest liabilities.
The chief spokesman of state BJP Rajiv Bindal also said the situation was similar to the one thatexisted in April 1983 when the then Chief Minister Thankur Ram Lal had to resign following corruption allegations against his son and friend.
The Ram Lal government was in majority at that time and Virbhadra Singh became the Chief Minister. How different yardsticks could be applied in the present situation, he asked.
"There is no difference in the situation in April 1983 and April 2016 and history is repeating itself," Bindal claimed.
