Reacting to media reports about these allegations, BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said the list of corruption related charges against Singh is getting longer.

"He has been accused by a media house of having gone against the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reform Act. Lands were purchased by Singh's relatives in 2003 for pittance from farmers and others. These were then sold off for windfall gains a few years later. Forest and farming lands were acquired and sold away," Sitharaman said.

She maintained that there are allegations that lands acquired for Rs 14 lakh were sold away in 2006 for over Rs 22 crore.

"It is also alleged that these extents of land were sold to builders in violation of prevailing laws. Transactions in violation of the Tenancy and Land Reforms Act are construed as 'Benami Land Deals' in Himachal Pradesh. There are allegations of income tax evasion too," she said.

The media house has alleged that the chief minister's relatives had paid no income tax on the transaction of nearly 315 bighas.

Singh is already facing allegations of having received money from a steel company when he was the Union Steel Minister. He has denied the charge. There are also allegations of criminal misconduct against him during his tenure as the chief minister in 1989.
