Presiding over the annual prize distribution function of Government Senior Secondary School in Shogi near Shimla, the chief minister said education was key to success and the crucial need was to bring improvement in quality of education so that students score high percentage of marks and compete.
"We need to have more model schools with all basic amenities and adequate infrastructure for quality education and time has come to consolidate the existing educational institutions rather than opening more, except a few in hard and remote areas," he said.
The Congress government believed in spreading light of education to every corner of the state so that every child is benefited, he said.
The chief minister declared Government Senior Secondary School in Shogi as model school and said such schools in Ghanahatti, Sunni and Halog (Dhami) would also be notified as model schools soon.
He said vacancies in around 15,500 government schools are being filled.
Earlier, the chief minister laid the foundation of additional accommodation of PWD Rest House at Taradevi near ITBP Headquarters to be constructed at a cost of Rs 2.76 crore. It will have 12 rooms, besides the 10 already in use and dormitory with 14 beds.
