The viscera of an eight-year-old Indian-origin British girl who died at a Patiala hospital after being taken ill has been sent to the state director of research and medical education (DRME), sources said today.
Sources said that the viscera of the deceased girl was on Friday handed over to the DRME by an official of the Government Medical College and Hospital here.
Gurkiren Kaur Loyal was visiting the country with her parents when she fell ill and was taken to a private clinic in Khanna on April 2.
She died shortly after being given what her parents claim was a mystery injection. Her body was later brought to Patiala for a post-mortem.
The deceased's family has alleged that her organs were removed during the post-mortem to cover up the cause of death, allegations which the government hospital officials have refuted.
The girl's parents, Amritpal Kaur Loyal and Santokh Singh, residents of Birmingham in UK, have now written to the authorities concerned in India asking for the organs of their daughter that they may cremate her.
Jasvir Singh Gill, president of NRI Sabha, too, has written to medical college officials conveying to them the bereaved family's wish to complete their daughter's cremation.
