The set up, christened "Dockyard Visitor Support Centre" (DVSC), was inaugurated by Vice-Admiral Girish Luthra, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command yesterday.
The facility was the outcome of detailed study undertaken of the footfall at entry point of the muster gate of the shipbuilding yard, an official release said.
It was observed the current layout and process was not designed to handle present-day volumes of the outsourced workers. The issue was also aggravated due to the common entry point for sailors, dockyard workers and contractor workforce.
The DVSC complex has two conference halls which can be used to conduct discussions with companies dealing with the Indian Navy and other financial activities at the gate itself.
The integrated complex also houses a cell for retired personnel called 'Veteran Information and Transaction Annex'. This addresses another long-standing concern of expeditious resolution of the post-retirement issues of superannuated personnel at the gate itself, the release said.
