Vizag post division to release stamps on Indian musicians

The Department of Posts, Visakhapatnam region, will release commemorative postage stamps on eight Indian musicians in honour of their services to music here tomorrow.
This is the first time that the department here is releasing eight postage stamps on musicians at a time, the region's Postmaster General Sharda Sampath told reporters here today.
The stamps will be released on sitar maestros Pandit Ravi Shankar and Vilayat Khan, renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, legendary singer of Carnatic music D K Pattammal, Carnatic singer Gangubai Hangal, noted Hindustani classical singer Kumar Gandharva, Hindustani classical Singer of Khyal style Mallikarjun Mansur and classical musician of Maihar Gharana Ali Akbar Khan.
Hyderabad Chief Postmaster General (Andhra Pradesh Circle) B V Sudhakar will release and present the stamps to Andhra University Vice Chancellor Prof G S N Raju at a function in the varsity premises here tomorrow, Sampath said.
The process of modernisation of post offices in the Visakhapatnam region, comprising four districts Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari, was going on in full swing to provide quality and value added services to the public, she said.
"Out of 16 head post offices in the region, the core banking solutions service has commenced in seven and the remaining will be covered under the system in due course," she added.
