VMC expedites process of demolishing dilapidated buildings

In the wake of the recent incidents of building collapse in the city, which claimed five lives in last one week, Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) expediting process of demolishing such buildings has formed teams of engineers and set up a control room.
VMC Commissioner Manish Bhardwaj today said in the backdrop of rising incident of building collapses, they have expedited the process of razing down such 167 buildings and have demolished 15 buildings in last two days.
"A control room has been set up yesterday where people can call up and inform about building in a dilapidated condition, which may collapse. We have also formed 3-4 teams of engineers and technical staff who are talking to people and convincing them to vacate the building," he said.
The official said that no relaxation would be observed in the process and action would be taken against those trying to stop it.
VMC, had earlier, issued notice to owners and tenants of 167 dilapidated buildings, of which 33 buildings are in a severely dilapidated condition.
So far, a total of 59 buildings have been razed down by the municipal corporation.
