VOC port trust handles 1,39,610 tonnes of cargo on Aug 31

The V O Chidambaranar Port Trust handled 1,39,610 tonnes of cargo on August 31, surpassing the previous single day traffic record of 1,17,641 tonnes on July 11, 2009.
The major cargos that contributed to this are industrial coal, thermal coal, containers cargo, gypsum, limestone and copper concentrate, a release said.
A total of 45,691 TEUs of containers have been handled in the Container Terminal operated by M/s PSA SICAL during August this year surpassing the previous highest performance of 45,126 TEUs handled during March 2008, which is the highest ever number of TEUs handled by the terminal in a single month at this port, it said.
