German auto giant Volkswagen will recall over 1.3 lakh imported vehicles in China, the largest so far after a defect was found in its braking system, the country's quality watchdog said today.
The recall, set to begin on April 18, affects imported Touareg vehicles manufactured between January 12, 2010 and January 19, 2016, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said here in a statement.
Volkswagen will recall 103,569 vehicles in China to replace a missing part without which the brake pedals may dislodge, it said.
The automaker said the brake pedal pivot pin of the affected vehicles may be missing a circlip.
If the brake pedal dislodges, the driver may not be able to apply the brakes, increasing the risk of a crash, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Volkswagen promised to check all affected vehicles and replace any defective parts free of charge.
