VW crosses 4 lakh car milestone of production from Pune plant

German auto major Volkswagen today crossed the milestone of producing 4 lakh cars from its Pune plant just after five years of becoming operational.
"Since the start of production at Volkswagen Pune Plant in March 2009, more than four lakh cars have been produced for the domestic as well as over 32 export markets across three continents," the company said in a statement.
The cars currently being produced at the Pune plant include Volkswagen Polo and Vento (in both, left and right hand drive version) and Skoda Rapid.
The 4,00,000th car to be rolled out from the plant was a Polo Highline for the domestic market equipped with the brand new 1.5-litre TDI engine, it added.
Commenting on the milestone, Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd President and Managing Director Mahesh Kodumudi said:"We will continue to focus on productivity and further localisation to cater to the demand from our markets."
The Volkswagen Group India has five brands in India -- Audi, Lamborghini, Porsche, Skoda and Volkswagen. It has been present in India for the last 13 years and began its India journey with the entry of the Skoda brand in 2001.
