A local court has acquitted the former aide of underworld don Abdul Latif, Abdul Wahab Baloch in a firing case due to lack of evidence as all witnesses turned hostile during the trial and even the complainant developed a cold feet in the court to pursue the matter.
District Judge B G Doshi yesterday let off Wahab, who had allegedly shot at his former business partner and local builder Nazir Vora, apparently over a property dispute, as all the eight witnesses examined during the trial recanted.
Wahab, a former aide of notorious underworld don Abdul Latif, had allegedly fired three rounds at Vora at Juhapura area in the city in March 2012.
Vora, who survived the life attempt, lodged a complaint against Wahab, saying the latter attacked him after they fell out over a plot of land located in Juhapura area.
"Police had immediately apprehended Wahab. However, during the trial all witnesses turned hostile. Even the complainant, Nazir Vora refused to corroborate what he had stated in his complaint during his deposition," said public prosecutor Pravin Trivedi.
