Bringing back the memories of Wajid Ali Shah, the gourmet king, a slice of Awadh came up in the hub of the city with minaret decor.
"We have recreated the phase when Nawab Wajid Ali Shah brought with him an entourage of 1000 bawarchis and Khansamas from Lucknow.
"You cannot recreate that era in the open space with the flyover, buses, cars and skyscrapers all around, but once you step in the 'Awadh region' inside the building you will step back into the bygone era of 18th century," a spokesman said about the looking back event to continue for 10 days.
"Apart from the decor and introducing people donning the dress and head gear typical of the period, we would love to treat the frequenters with delicacies liked by the Nawab," he said.
These were all delectable centuries old recipes including the Chapli Kebab, Bharwan Kalmi Kebab, Samundari Khazana, Mewe Mawe Ki Goli, especially prepared for the Royal households.
"The Awadh, bringing the smell, facets of the pre-independence United Provinces of Agra and Oudh established around 1722 AD with Faizabad as capital, show will not highlight the phase of Shah's dethroning and banishment to Metiabruz," he said.
"It will instead encapsulate the celebration part, which went on and on from Lucknow to Kolkata as royals were true foodies in those days," he said.
The 20-day Awadh, beginning on June 10, came up in the premises of Daawat - e - Shiraz, a typical Lucknovi cuisine restaurant introduced to the city by the Nawab-era descendants.
