Walk held in Srinagar to keep city clean

A large number of people today participated in the 'Walk for Srinagar' organised by Jammu and Kashmir circle of Department of Posts and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to raise awareness about keeping the city clean and green.
The programme is part of the ongoing 'Post Office Fest 2013.'
Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies Nawang Rigzin Jora flagged off the walk in the presence of MLA Amira Kadal, Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Post Master General, J&K, John Samuel and Commissioner SMC, G N Qasba, at Lake View Golf Course on the banks of the world-famous Dal Lake.
On the occasion, Jora said the walk is "a good initiative to begin with," taken by the Department of Posts and SMC, Srinagar for the upkeep of the city.
Samuel said the Department of Posts is committed to serve the people of the state through social and economic uplift.
"It is my dream and vision to develop Srinagar as a great city. I appealed to people to make all out efforts to keep the city clean and green," he said.
A special cover on Chashma Shahi was released by Samuel and Qasba in the presence of the large gathering of people.
The walk, which was held from Lake View Golf Course, Boulevard Road to Sher-e-Kashmir Park near Srinagar GPO, is part of the five-day Post Office festival, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday.
