The main opposition Congress staged a walkout in the Chhattisgarh assembly today after its dissatisfaction with the state government's reply on the issue of spending funds for the maintenance of roads in Chhattisgarh's upcoming capital of Naya Raipur.
Raising the issue during question hour, Congress MLA from Abhanpur constituency Dhanendra Sahu sought to know the exact length of roads constructed in Naya Raipur (in terms of number of kilometres) under the City Level Roads Phase-1 as well as the amount spent on its construction.
He also asked when exactly the road construction work was completed under Phase-1 and upto which period the contractor had been allotted responsibility for the repair and maintenance works of these roads.
Sahu also wanted to know precisely on what date the contractor had been given the task of "routine and periodic maintenance" and at what cost.
In his reply, Chhattisgarh's Public Works Department Minister Rajesh Munat said that roads of a total length of 75.25 km have been constructed under City Level Roads Phase-1 in Naya Raipur and totally Rs 337.57 crore was spent on it.
Construction of roads was completed on 31-01-2011 and the contractor has been assigned to carry out the maintenance work till 31-01-2013, Munat said.
For routine and periodic maintenance, contractor N C Nahar from Durg district has been allotted a contract for the period of three years on March 3, 2014 at a cost of Rs 29.9966 crores for which he has been paid Rs 5.52 crore so far, Munat said.
