Opposition Mizoram Democratic Alliance (MDA) comprising five members of the Mizo National Front (MNF) and the lone member of the Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) today staged a walkout during the discussion on the budgetary demands of two ministers.
The legislators staged a walkout after the Deputy Speaker R. Lalrinawma, who was in the chair during the discussion, allegedly refused to allow the members to participate in the discussion and said that the six legislators would not be in the Assembly whenever Lalrinawma was in the chair presiding over the session.
Dr K. Beichhua of the MNF told reporters that only two members each from the treasury bench and the opposition bench participated in the discussion on the budgetary demands of Sports Minister Zodintluanga and Transport Minister John Rotluangliana while the Deputy Speaker disallowed the members to speak and asked the ministers to wind up the discussion.
"We were waiting for others to speak first and Lalrinawma of the MNF raised his hand to participate in the discussion but the Deputy Speaker claimed that he did not see the former raising his hands," Beichhua said, adding that the ruling of the Deputy Speaker was arbitrary.
The opposition legislators would not be present in the House when the Deputy Speaker is in the chair and presiding over the sitting of the Assembly till March 30 when the current session is scheduled to be adjourned sine die ,
Beichhua said.
