Nayeem Ahmad Wani, a resident of Kulangam village, was arrested from Handwara yesterday, a police spokesman said.
Nearly a dozen cases of robbery, theft, forgery and kidnapping are registered against Wani in different police stations of Kupwara and Srinagar since 2001.
Kupwara district administration has sent him to Kote Balwal Jail in Jammu under the Public Safety Act (PSA), the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, four timber smugglers and two forest officials-- guard Ghulam Mohiudin Lone and helper Abdul Rashid Peer -- were arrested last night for allegedly felling and smuggling trees in Trehgam area of Kupwara district, he said.
Two burglars were also arrested by a night patrol team at Kreeri in Baramulla district and some electronic gadgets, including a digital clock, were recovered from them.
