Monu Tiwari and his two accomplices attacked Koyla Nagar Chakeri railway station master Jai Prakash at around 2 AM while he was on way to the station on a motorcycle and robbed him off his mobile phone, cash, ATM card, pistol and bike, Kanpur Police DIG Amitabh Yash said.
A police patrol party chased the robbers who fired at them. In the retaliatory firing, Monu was killed but his aides managed to escape, he said.
Tiwari, wanted in various cases of thefts and murders, was carrying a bounty of Rs 10,000 on him, the DIG said.
Search is on to nab his two aides, he said.
