A gangster, involved in four cases of murder and carrying a reward of Rs one lakh on his head, has been arrested from his hideout in Ram Nagar town in Nainital district of Uttarakhand.
The accused, Ashim (28) was apprehended yesterday by Crime Branch of Delhi Police for his alleged involvement in four cases of murder and attempt to murder in Zaffrabad area of north east Delhi, police said today.
In most of the cases, he had targeted members of rival gangs.
Ashim used to flee to Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand after committing crimes here, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Chand said.
During interrogation, he revealed that from being a vendor of belts and shoes he forayed into the world of crime and became a gang leader in north-east Delhi after he came in contact with other criminals of the area in 2007, police said.
He formed his own gang and decided to take over the gambling network of north-east Delhi which was then controlled by one Meharban of Braham Puri, they added.
In order to establish his supremacy, they tried to kill Kallu, one of Meharban's associates, but he survived. He later made unsuccessful attempts to eliminate two other rival gangsters.
Ashim and his gang killed four people in the period of two years for merely taking revenge.
