The Maoist Jhonson Ganju alias Chander alias Deepak and his wife Anita alias Budhni alias Asha were arrested from the Saranda forest by the police who had cordoned off the area, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kamboj said.
The police seized a pistol, two cartridges and Rs.17,000 in cash from them, the SP said.
Ganju was entrusted with collection of levy and given the responsibility to set up a base camp in Saranda and made in-charge of Kolhan region comprising East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharswan districts.
Kamboj said Ganju, who was arrested by Mander police in Ranchi district in 2004 managed to escape from the court cell.
He was wanted by the police in 27 cases including the Bitkilsoy landmine blast and Baliva landmine blast killing about 17 and 30 security personnel in first half of 2000.
A resident of Hazaribagh district, Ganju had joined the outfit in 1995 and married Anita a month ago at Deori Temple on the Tata-Ranchi highway.
