The incident took place at Borunarsapuram village.
Punem Narsaiah, the accused, and his wife Swaroopa quarreled frequently, said Eturnagaram circle inspector Kishore Kumar.
He attacked the wife today following a quarrel last night, the inspector said. She died on the spot.
The couple's two sons called the neighbours who alerted the police and handed over Narsaiah, Kumar said.
