Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil today sought to know from the Maharashtra government whether proper medical advice had been taken before shifting CPI leader Govind Pansare to Mumbai, where he died days after being shot at in Kolhapur.
"Was Pansare shifted to Mumbai from Kolhapur in consultation with local doctors in Kolhapur? Pansare was being treated well there. What was the need to shift him to Mumbai. Couldn't the doctors be taken to Kolhapur?," the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly asked.
Five days after a murderous attack on his life in February this year, Pansare, a veteran Communist leader and eminent activist was shifted to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai for advanced treatment.
The 82-year-old leader was shifted to Mumbai via air ambulance from Kolhapur, where doctors were treating him at the Aster Aadhar hospital.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had earlier said the decision to bring the critically injured Pansare was reached in consultation with the doctors in Kolhapur only after Pansare's family members had given their sanction.
