The water supply to a part of Berhampur town was disrupted due to a burst of the main pipe from the Rushikulya water supply system at Madhapur, about 30-km from here. The supply is likely to be hit for two more days, as the repair work is yet completed.
The repair work was hit due to heavy rain and water-logging in the area in last few days. The repair is likely to be completed and water supply will be resumed soon, executive engineer, Public Health Engineering Department, Berhampur P K Mohapatra said.
He said water supply to medical college and hospital was made through an alternative route from Dakhinapur reservoir, another water supply source to Berhampur town.
Presently around 50 million liter per day (mld) is being supplied to the town from all sources - Dakhinapur impounding reservoir (30 mld) Madhapur water supply project (16mld) and bore-wells (4 mld) as against the daily requirement of around 54 mld for 4 lakh people in the town, official sources said.
