Water supply at Wazirabad area in the city was affected for nearly three days, because of damage suffered by a water rising main of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), due to "construction work" carried by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
According to senior officials, the water rising main at Wazirabad was damaged on the night of May 27 while DMRC was carrying out the trenchless work for crossing the ring road near the ISBT.
During that work, the rising main was damaged during the movement of equipments across the road.
Taking preventive action, DJB immediately stopped water treatment plant and engaged expert agency within three hours of the incident.
These rising mains are of bigger diameter and run round the clock with very high pressure to ensure that water supply reaches to the farthest end, the DJB said.
"Duplicate rising main emanating from Wazirabad WTP is 900 mm diameter and runs around 25 km from Wazirabad to Greater Kailash which fills GK-I reservoir apart from serving areas of CGO Complex, Darya Ganj, Walled City areas including Kashmiri Gate," CEO, DJB SS Yadav said in a statement.
"We repaired this water line within a record time of 36 hours and restored water supply by doing work round the clock. All the senior officers remained at site and monitored the work.
