The Delhi High Court today came down heavily on Delhi's government over rampant unauthorised construction in the city leading to dumping of rubble in non-specific areas causing choking of drains and waterlogging, saying "nothing is happening as per the master plan".
A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Pradeep Nandrajog said "look at the photographs. They show there is rampant unauthorised construction. This is one of the reasons for the present problem (waterlogging)".
"Nothing is happening according to the master plan. What are you doing? Have you seen in what condition people are living in Delhi?
"We are living in an age of science and technology and you are not able to deal with water-logging and de-silting in the national capital," the HC told the Delhi Chief Secretary who had been directed to be personally present before the court over delay in filing a report on proposed short and long-term measures to tackle the issue of waterlogging.
The court was also not happy with a report submitted by Delhi government on the issue, saying "is this a report? This is nothing."
The court later listed the matter for further hearing on August 20 after Delhi government said it will file another report and also assured the bench that steps are being taken to ensure that waterlogging does not occur this year.
