The West Bengal CID is investigating two alleged scams -- the iron ore fines export to China and the potato procurement -- that came to light during the Left Front regime, state Food and Supplies Minister Jyotipriya Mallick told the Assembly today.
Replying to questions on the budgetary demand of his ministry, Mallick mentioned the two scams - one being the Rs 380 crore iron ore fines export to China during 2008-10 and the other being the scam for import and export of potato to Punjab.
The burden of interest paid to nine banks against loan to export iron ore fines to China had ballooned to Rs 80 crore, Mallick said.
The minister indicated that the then head of West Bengal Essential Commodities Supply Corporation, including two former ministers of food and supplies department, could be grilled by CID to unearth the truth.
Speaking about the potato procurement and export scam during 2009 and 2010, Mallick later told reporters that the then state finance minister could also be quizzed by the state investigating agency.
He said the then food and supplies minister was also on the radar of CID.
