WB CPI(M) district committees favour adjustment with Cong

Majority of the district committees of the CPI(M)'s West Bengal unit today favoured adjustment with the Congress to stop the BJP, as sought by the party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, party sources said.
On the third day of the CPI(M)'s state conference here, various district committees submitted their reports and majority of which favoured an alliance with the Congress in order to stop the march of the saffron party in the state.
The sources said, several district committee reports indirectly questioned the draft resolution adopted in the last central committee meeting ruling out any alliance with the Congress.
The district committees said the party's proposal of the broadest possible unity of secular and democratic forces can never be successful without including the Congress in it.

"Those who think that we can make a turn around by strengthening our unity with other Left and secular forces, without the Congress, are not aware of ground realities," said a CPI(M) leader.
The CPI (M) central committee had on January 21 voted against the draft political resolution put forward by Yechury proposing an alliance with the Congress. It adopted a draft resolution ruling out any form of electoral alliance or adjustment with the Congress.

The adopted resolution will be placed before the party congress, the highest decision-making platform of the Left party, at Hyderabad next month.
Yechury, along with a large section of leaders from Bengal, have been vocal about adjustment with the Congress to stop the BJP. Yechury's political line, however, has been opposed by the party's Kerala unit, along with politburo member Prakash Karat, known as a hardliner in the CPI(M).

The four-day long CPI(M) state conference which began on Monday witnessed leaders from various parts referring to the party's dismal performance in Tripura as a wake up call.
According to CPI(M) sources, there are high chances that several leaders above 75 years of age can be axed from the state committee during the formation of the new committee tomorrow to pave way for new and young faces.
