"I am waiting for the report and then I will come back," Narayanan said on the sidelines of a seminar after being asked about Saturday's incident which has sparked outrage, with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights slapping a notice on the West Bengal government asking it to investigate and submit a report within 10 days.

The governor has sought a report from the vice-chancellor of the university at Santiniketan in Birbhum district.

Birbhum Superintendent of Police Hrishikesh Meena said Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act which carries a prison sentence of six months or a fine or both, has also been slapped against the warden of the Karabi Girls' Hostel, Uma Poddar, for her act which she had described was 'to stop a bad habit'.

The warden was arrested on Sunday night and charged with wrongful detention and intention to infect with a disease.

Poddar was granted bail yesterday by a Bolpur court where she was produced along with the girl's parents, who were arrested on charges of intimidation and trespassing after taking their daughter back home.

Bodhirupa Sinha, Principal of Patha Bhavana, the residential co-education primary and secondary school under Visva-Bharati, called up the girl's father Manoj Mistry at the direction of Vice-Chancellor Sushanta Dutta Gupta saying that the girl could return to school as a day scholar.

Mistry told reporters that he told the principal that the family was yet to take a decision on whether to send their daughter back to school.

The traumatised girl said "I don't want to go back to that school. I want to join some other school. If I go back to that school, I will feel ashamed."
