The party retained the assembly seats of Bankura and Daspur in West Bengal in the bypolls held on June 12.
"There is a deliberate attempt by some sections to criticise the state government's style of functioning. All this negative campaign has been proved totally wrong and baseless," party leader in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandopadhyay said here after the election results were announced.
He said the results "reflect the complete support of the people in the grassroot levels as these two assembly segments are located in the extreme rural areas of Bengal".
Both Trinamool candidates defeated their CPI(M) rivals by over 15,000 votes. The Congress did not put up any candidate in these two seats.
