The state government today issued a notification to increase the dearness allowance (DA) of its employees from next January.
The notification was issued a day after the Calcutta High Court questioned the state government what it had done to implement the chief minister's announcement to increase the DA for state government employees.
At a meeting of State Government Employees' Federation on September 7, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced 15 per cent hike in DA for employees from next January.
The notification issued by the Finance (audit) department said that the revised rate of DA admissible to the state government employees will be effective from January 1, 2018.
The benefit of the DA, it said, would also be allowed to teachers and non-teaching employees of the state government-aided educational institutions, employees of statutory bodies, government undertakings, panchayats including panchayat karmee and municipal corporations, municipalities, local bodies, it said.
There would be a further ad-hoc increase in the existing daily rate of wages by Rs 32 with effect from January 1, 2018 for the daily-rated workers under the state government whose wages are not regulated by any statutory provision like the Minimum Wages Act, the notification said.
