West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi, ex-officio Chancellor of Calcutta University, which is embroiled in a controversy over removal of its finance officer, today asked the vice-chancellor to provide all papers related to his removal while appealing for resumption of normalcy.
"The Chancellor asked me to send all papers relating to removal of the finance officer, inquiry committee findings and high court orders by noon tomorrow," Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das said at a press conference after meeting Tripathi at Raj Bhavan here.
"The Chancellor has given a letter appealing to the agitating teachers to lift their sit-in demonstration and restore normal functioning of the university, which I will read out tomorrow before them," Das said.
'Save University - Save Democracy,' a forum of teachers and non-teaching staff, for the last few days were agitating over abolishment of the post of financial officer (FO) and demanded reinstatement of Harisadhan Ghosh, who was removed from the post a few days back.
Professors and non-teaching staff of Calcutta University (CU) were allegedly heckled by activists of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, the students' union of the ruling party, a charge which was denied by the latter.
Das said he would also submit a report to the Chancellor on the incident within a day or two.
