Lashing out at the deteriorating law and order situation of the state, the state unit of Janata Dal (United), RJD, Samajwadi Party and Janata Dal(Secular) today forged an alliance and decided to fight the next Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections together.
"The rule of law must be ensured in the state. All steps to confiscate illegal arms should be made by the administration," JD(U) state president Amitava Dutta said.
Dutta said it was the duty of the socialists in the state to unite when attempts were being made to divide the people of Bengal on religious lines.
"Attempts are being made to divide the people of Bengal on religious lines. One party is working to polarise the Hindus, another is trying to polarise the Muslims. Such things have never happened in Bengal. This has to stop," Dutta added.
