WBHRC asks Burdwan SP to file report on youth's death
Press Trust of India Kolkata The West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC) today asked the Burdwan district superintendent of police to file a report within three weeks over the death of a youth, who was allegedly killed by miscreants when he resisted their bid to rape his two sisters.
"We have asked the district SP to enquire and submit a report within three weeks," Justice Ashok Kumar Ganguly, chairman of WBHRC, told PTI here.
The Commission would contemplate further action on the issue after going through the report, the chairman said.
Ganesh Murmu (22) was shot from close range yesterday when he stopped four youths from raping his two sisters at their residence at Nasipur Adivasi Para of Dainhat in Burdwan district.
Murmu, a private security guard by profession, died on the spot. The police have launched a manhunt to arrest the culprits, according to superintendent of police S M H Mirza.
