"From information available through my sources, the background of two boys who were allegedly beaten up, should be investigated by the Home Ministry," she told PTI.

Manjula said she had already prepared a report on the issue and would submit it to Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and the Home Minister.

She said she had visited houses of the two girls, who were victims of the attack, and they revealed that they were not acquainted with the two boys.

"The two boys are neither college-mates nor neighbours. They were not known to the two girls. How the boys got in touch with these two girls and how they succeeded to make them attend the birthday celebrations at the home-stay? All these things have to be probed," she said.

The parents of the girl victims were upset with the repeated media footage of the incident and requested them to stop broadcasting it immediately, she said.

Manjula said she suspects that the home-stay, where the incident took place, was run illegally and demanded an inquiry into it. "Police should take immediate action in this matter," she said.

The women's commission chairperson and her colleagues had visited the home-stay yesterday and took stock of the situation nd took briefings from the police.
