As the BJP grapples with dissidence and infighting at its Bengal unit over distribution of party tickets for next month's municipal election, the Trinamool Congress today quipped it was relishing the development like a movie.
"BJP men were beaten up (by party colleagues) and in turn they were beating up their attackers. We are enjoying it from a distance like a cinema," TMC leader and state panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee told reporters here.
On BJP state president Rahul Sinha's claim that because of the party's rise in Bengal, number of ticket aspirants was growing, Mukherjee said, "Let the party (BJP) rise this way and let there be more fighting."
To a question on the role of the police which was deployed outside the BJP state headquarters, he said, "If the police does not go there, we will be accused of engineering it. And if the police goes, then also we will be blamed".
Mukherjee was responding to questions from reporters on clashes that broke out on Monday and Tuesday outside the state BJP headquarters between dissenters and loyalists over alleged irregularities in the distribution of tickets for the upcoming municipal elections resulting in injuries to some of them.
Faced with the open revolt, Sinha, who was gheraoed at the party office by angry protesters, yesterday warned that no dissent and indiscipline would be tolerated and strong action would be taken.
Sinha had told a press conference that three party members had been expelled for unruly behaviour outside party office on Monday.
