Filmmaker AK Bir says they will be re-releasing controversial movie "Nanak Shah Fakir", which was taken off theatres after protests from religious Sikh groups, with proper alterations in the script.
The producers of the film, based on the life and teachings of the first Sikh guru Nanak Dev, decided to withdraw the movie from cinema halls across the country and globe back in April.
"We are re-releasing the film. It was released and then it was withdrawn because some religious organisations had objections to certain aspect of the film.
"From the beginning the religious sects were informed about it and they approved. But in between they again came back with certain points. One of them was that we could not show the face of the person," Bir said on the sidelines of IFFI.
The multiple National award-winning
director-cinematographer from Odisha, who has made films like "Adi Mimansa", "Lavanya Preeti" and "Baaja", said in the new version of the film they have used extensive VFX.
"The religious groups raised sensitive points. I feel ultimately a film survives on the support it gets from the audience. That was the challenge. We had to rework the script and it took many months to work it out. Other things have been taken care of by the VFX. The whole film is literally put through VFX."
The music of the film has been composed by Oscar and Grammy winner A R Rahman.
