Copper prices declined 0.28 per cent to Rs 423 per kg in futures trade today as speculators trimmed positions amid a weak trend overseas.
At Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in far-month August eased Rs 1.20, or 0.28 per cent, to Rs 423 per kg in a business turnover of six lots.
Likewise, the metal for delivery in June shed Rs 1.15, or 0.27 per cent, to Rs 418.20 per kg in 522 lots.
Experts said that apart from subdued demand at domestic spot markets, weakness in base metal pack at the London Metal Exchange (LME) as investors await China growth data on industrial production that's forecast to rebound from a 6-year low, weighed on metal prices here.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months retreated 0.3 per cent to USD 6,424 a tonne at LME.
