Weaker sections of the society continue to be deprived of their basic rights despite several provisions given for them in the Indian constitution by B R Ambedkar, an organisation representing Gujjars said today.
"Even after the passage of more than 60 years since B R Ambedkar made certain provisions in the constitution, the weaker sections of the society still continue to be deprived of their basic rights," Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasaba (BGM) president Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal told reporters on the occasion of Ambedkar's 122th birth anniversary.
Alleging that Scheduled Tribes, Gujjars and Bakkerwals in the state were being deprived of their due share as envisaged by Ambedkar, Poswal said: "Ambedkar had dreamt that STs and SCs should be empowered politically, socially and economically and must be brought at par with other sections of the society.
He, however, said that it was due to the vision and efforts of Ambedkar that weaker sections of the society, including the Schedule Castes and STs, in the country had benefited.
