Wear khadi to pay tribute to Mahatma : Jharkhand governor

Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu today called upon the people to wear khadi on Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti.
This will help the poor, a press release said quoting the governor.
It would also be the best tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Murmu said while addressing people after garlanding Gandhi's statue here, the release said.
Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that Gandhiji got the title 'Mahatma' for his devotion towards the country.
Das said, the state government is following the path preached by Mahatma Gandhi and encouraging self-sustenance, self-governance and good governance.
Stating that people are being trained to promote forest produce of the state, the chief minister said that 62 per cent of the countrys lac and 82 per cent of tussar are produced in Jharkhand.
Boards have been set up for their development, the release quoting the chief minister said.

Lac products are being exported to four countries, he said, adding training would be imparted to women to make lac products.
The state government would also encourage apiculture, Das said.
Pledging to root out poverty, the chief minister said the government is working with the commitment to eradicate poverty by 2022.
For this, assistance from everyone is required, he added.
The chief minister also remembered former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary and paid tribute to him, the release said.
He said the country has become self-reliant on production of grains because of Shastri.
On the occasion, Jharkhand Khadi Board distributed 16 sewing machines, 12 lakh kit and 10 charkhas to people, the release said.
