After successful implementation of the e-Vidhan project to stop use of paper during the monsoon session, Himachal Pradesh assembly speaker B B L Butail today launched a website to achieve the goal of total e-governance.
The website contains data of the assembly since the first session was held in 1952, profile of the members and ministers along with their contact numbers, members' personal gallery, latest news and photos, speeches of governors and speakers, debates, questions and replies, and various bills.
Detailing the advantage of e-system, Butail said that his endeavour was to make "all operations online to make the assembly paperless". Even identity cards would be replaced by electronic cards, he added.
He said the implementation of e-Vidhan has helped the House save Rs 15 crore.
The initiative taken by Himachal Pradesh has been lauded by several other state assemblies who are keen to implement the project, the speaker said, adding that switching over to the new system was not difficult.
"Some members initially had some difficulty in getting accustomed to the new system but once you learn it, it is very simple, efficient and transparent," Butail added.
