"It is our Government that handed over the cases to the CBI. The CID has been investigating the cases since the past two years," Gogoi said in a statement here.
"No opposition parties or organisations raised such a demand. Now the AGP is raising a hue and cry over it and demanding interrogation of me. I welcome it," he said.
Gogoi said that anyone "involved in furthering the illegal activities of the chit fund companies or found guilty of patronising such firms should not be spared."
Meanwhile, a team of CBI officials led by the investigative agency's Joint Director (North East) R P Agrawal today held a meeting with senior officials from CID and Bureau of Economic Offences here, sources said.

The meeting, held at CBI's Guwahati office, reviewed various cases registered against chit fund companies in the state.
The CBI team is expected to submit a report later to its headquarters in New Delhi regarding plans for further action. Based on the report, CBI headquarters will decide which cases are to be investigated by the central agency, the sources added.
