Wendell Rodricks gets standing ovation at LFW for Padma Shri

Goa-based ace designer Wendell Rodricks got a standing ovation from his fashion industry colleagues and Bollywood celebrities at the Lakme Fashion Week here on getting the Padma Shri honour.
Wendell has been announced as the recipient of the Padma Shri, fourth-highest civilian award, in the category of art (fashion designing).
To celebrate the honour bestowed upon him, Wendell was felicitated on day three of Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014.
Before designer Anita Dongre displayed her collection, Wendell was given a bouquet of flowers and standing ovation in presence of celebrities like Designer Manish Malhotra, Actress Mughda Godse, Vidya Malvade, Neetu Chandra, producer Sahil Sangha and others.
"It feels wonderful to get this kind of appreciation from you all. It's an emotional moment. This award doesn't belong to me alone. It is a celebration of all of us from the fashion industry. More Power to Indian fashion and our industry," Wendell said.
He is one of the names in the fashion industry to have revolutionised the Indian ramp scene and also promoted it globally.

Wendell has a unique signature style of blending ancient Indian geometry with Goa's relaxed style.
He got trained in Los Angeles and Paris. After designing for companies like Garden Vareli, cosmetic giant Lakme and diamond corporate DeBeers, Rodricks established his own label in 1990.
He also acted in a film named 'Boom' in 2003 and made an appearance in the television play 'True West' in 2002. He also played a cameo as himself in the film 'Fashion'.
