With the arrest of a man from Mumbra near here, the Thane police claimed Thursday to have solved the murder of a bar girl in Dombivali in the district.
The police had found the body of an unidentified woman in a chawl in Golivali area of Dombivali on May 1, 2018. The woman, around 20-25 years old, was found to have been strangulated by a dupatta.
DCP (crime) Deepak Deoraj said Thursday that the police got a tip-off that the accused, Mazidul Jalaluddin Mandal (28), hailed from Hilla tehsil of South Dinajpur district in West Bengal, and was going to come to Mumbra Thursday in the early hours.
The police kept vigil and nabbed him, he said.
Mandal allegedly confessed to the crime and revealed that the deceased woman's name was Futuli alias Faridakhatun alias Mim, who hailed from the same village as him.
Mazidul, a married man with children, had an affair with the victim and the two were living together in Golivali area, he told police.

Mazidul's wife often fought with him over his relationship with the Faridakhatun. Faridakhatun, who worked as a waitress in a bar, too was pestering him with the demand that he should marry her, he told police.
On April 28, 2018, they had a quarrel, following which he strangulated her and fled to West Bengal, he allegedly told the police. Further probe is on.
