West Jaintia girl to represent Meghalaya Climbers' team

A girl hailing from a remote village in West Jaintia Hills district will represent Meghalaya in an All-Women's month-long expedition team to the Mt Bhagirathi III (6,454m) a Himalayan range at Garhwal in Uttarakhand beginning from May 28, officials said here today.
Roiwanki Suchiang, hailing from Sohkynphor village in West Jaintia Hills district, about 35 km away from the district headquarters, is a student of Shillong College and has been selected by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi, to participate in the event, they said.
Suchiang will be one of the climbers in the All India Women Expedition to Mt Bhagirathi III (6,454m), Meghalaya Rock Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeRCMA) Secretary Wallambok Lyngdoh said.

Among the 10 selected climbers from the country, Suchiang was the only from the North Eastern Region. To her credit, she recently completed the Advance Mountaineering Course from Himalayan Mountaineering Institute with high distinction, Lyngdoh said.
IMF is the only Organization that monitors and conducts Expeditions in Indian Himalayas and promotes Sports Climbing (Artificial Climbing) in India.
