Raising the matter in the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour, Ray, who represents Andaman and Nicobar Islands, asked Parliamentary Affairs Minister P K Bansal what action has been taken against the official as six days had passed since the matter was raised in the House.
AIADMK leader M Thambidurai, who was in the Chair, said the issue was under the consideration of Speaker Meira Kumar. She has "called for the facts. The matter is being considered by her," he said.
The alleged mistreatment meted out to the BJP member allegedly by a Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry had generated heat in the Lok Sabha on May 10, with the Speaker saying such incidents should not recur. The government had then promised "appropriate action".
"A little insult to any member of this House is a serious matter. I am pained as it is my responsibility to protect honour and dignity of every member," Kumar had observed.
Ray had narrated the alleged misbehaviour by the officer a day before when he had gone to meet him on a matter concerning his constituency. It had led to sharp protests from the BJP and some other parties.
Responding to the issue, Bansal had said the government viewed it very seriously and promised him that he would personally take the matter to the Home Minister for "appropriate action".
