Wheat prices edged higher by 0.22 per cent to Rs 1,797 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators built up fresh positions, triggered by tight supply from producing regions at spot market.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in far-month August edged up by Rs 4, or 0.22 per cent to Rs 1,797 per quintal with an open interest of 21,840 lots.
Likewise, the wheat for delivery in July contracts inched up by Rs 3, or 0.17 per cent to Rs 1,767 per quintal in 19,490 lots.
Marketmen said speculative positions built up by traders, driven by fall in arrivals in the physical market against pick-up in demand from flour mills led to rise in wheat prices at futures trade.
