Wheat prices moved up by 0.66 per cent to Rs 1,986 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators built up fresh positions.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in August month went up by Rs 13, or 0.66 per cent to Rs 1,986 per quintal with an open interest of 4,450 lots.

On similar lines, the wheat for delivery in September contracts edged up by Rs 5, or 0.25 per cent to Rs 1,990 per quintal in 2,990 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by traders following improved demand in the physical market and a pause in arrivals from producing belts mainly led to the rise in wheat prices in futures trade.
