Wheat procurement stands at 8.29 lakh tonnes in Punjab

Wheat procurement in Punjab was so far recorded at 8,29,588 lakh tonnes, an official spokesman said here today.
The government agencies procured 7,74,878 lakh tonnes (93.4 per cent) for the central pool, he said.
The private traders procured 54,710 lakh tonnes (6.6 per cent) of wheat, he said.
Giving the details of agency wise procurement, he said that PUNGRAIN procured maximum amongst the government agencies procuring 1,85,731 MT (22.4 per cent) whereas MARKFED procured 1,73,509 lakh tonnes (20.9 per cent); PUNSUP procured 1,35,347 lakh tonnes (16.3 per cent) and PSWC 1,02,488 lakh tonnes (12.4 per cent).
The central government agency FCI has procured 95,622 lakh tonnes (11.5 per cent) of wheat for the central pool, the spokesman said.
District Ferozepur maintained its first position by procuring 1,49,211 lakh tonnes of wheat followed by Bathinda and Fazilka procuring 1,10,091 lakh tonnes and 1,01,305 tonnes of wheat respectively.
Meanwhile, detailed guidelines to execute smooth and hassle free procurement operations in the state have already been issued to the concerned, the spokesman said.
Necessary arrangements have also been made in all the 1,810 purchase centres of Punjab, he added.
