Wheat, rice basmati rise on increased offtake

Prices of wheat and rice basmati rose up to Rs 200 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today on increased offtake by flour mills and stockists against a slowdown in arrivals from producing belts.
Traders said increased offtake by flour mills and stockists against restricted supplies from producing belts mainly led to the rise in wheat and rice basmati prices.
In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) rose by Rs 10 to Rs 1,680-16,85 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by the same margin to Rs 1,685-1,690 per 90 kg.
Sooji also moved up to Rs 1,000-1,010 from previous level of Rs 980-1,000 per 50 kg.
In the rice section, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety were up by Rs 200 each to Rs 5,600-6,100 and Rs 4,900-6,000 per quintal, respectively.
